Our Educational Belief

The Early Years Matter

At Welman Academy, we believe that the early years education are critical in shaping the trajectory of a child's life. The early years, typically defined as the period from birth to eight years old, lay the foundation for all future learning, development, and well-being. During this critical phase, children undergo rapid cognitive, emotional, social, and physical growth, making it a pivotal time for intervention and support.

Beyond academic achievement, early years education plays a crucial role in nurturing essential life skills such as communication, problem-solving, collaboration, and resilience. These foundational skills are invaluable in navigating the complexities of today's world and are best cultivated through meaningful interactions and experiences during the early years.

Meet the Founder: Mrs. Tedra Norwood

Mrs. Tedra Norwood is the visionary founder and proud owner of Welman Academy. A native of Snellville, Georgia, she grew up in the heart of the Snellville community and matriculated through the Shiloh Cluster schools from elementary through high school. Her
lifelong dedication to education began in the Gwinnett County Public School System, where she launched her career as a classroom teacher and later served as a teacher leader, parent instructional coordinator, assistant principal, and principal. Now retired from the principalship, she is devoted to giving back to her community by educating young minds and preparing them for a successful future.

With a deep belief that the early years are foundational to a child’s educational journey, she established Welman Academy to nurture curious minds and foster a love for learning in children ages 3 through elementary school.

A seasoned educational leader with over 27 years of experience, Mrs. Norwood brings a wealth of knowledge in instructional leadership, organizational management, and professional development. She has spent her career championing equitable, engaging learning environments that empower both students and educators. As an educational leader, motivational speaker, and advocate for impactful leadership, she is committed to inspiring excellence in every classroom.

Mrs. Norwood holds a Specialist degree in Educational Leadership and a Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice from the University of Georgia, as well as a Master’s degree in Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment from Walden University. Her professional credentials include certifications in Educational Leadership, Elementary Education, and Professional Development.

Beyond her professional accomplishments, Mrs. Norwood is a woman of faith and family. When she’s not speaking, coaching, or leading, she enjoys exploring trails with her loved ones, creating worship experiences through music, and sharing laughs over a warm cup of coffee.

Mrs. Norwood warmly welcomes you to the Welman Academy family—where every child is seen, supported, and set up for success.
